Reiki
Reiki is believed to have begun in Tibet several thousand years ago. Seers in the Orient studied energies and developed a system of sounds and symbols for universal healing energies.
Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator in Kyoto, Japan, rediscovered the root system in the mid- to late 1800s. He discovered ancient sounds and symbols that are directly connected to the human body and nervous system which stimulate the universal life energy of healing.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation which promotes healing. Its technique is mainly by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stressed, on the other hand, when it is high and well balanced, we tend to fight diseases better and cope with life’s stresses in a better way.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is "spiritually guided life force energy."
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Reiki energy has several basic effects:
it achieves deep relaxation, unblocks energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.
During a Reiki session, the healer places the hands above the recipient; however, it is the recipient that draws the energy as needed. There is another approach to Reiki in which the practitioner holds his or her hands a few inches or even further away from the patient's body and manipulates the energy field from there.
Reiki was introduced to the Western world in the mid-1970s. Since then its use has spread dramatically worldwide.
